Why we chose:
Back in the day, I wanted a Gallery Billiards episode featuring the bands from Bradenton and Sarasota. Pushmower couldn’t make the meet and greet, so I told them I’d interview them in early September for an October episode. I found out about this show the week leading into it, and I had nothing better to do on Labor Day. After lining up Pushmower and Code Zero everyone else just sorta fell into place. I guess that fact is the bi-product of one shared central dressing room located down a Spinal Tap hallway of twists and turns.

Why we chose:

Tenspoke Indies - They have a show this week at the Orpheum, on Friday even. I can think of no better reason than to play a song from a band actively gigging, and playing a show that has almost sold out two weeks before the event. That’s class. Damn you Baltimore, I wanted to be at the show. Good luck guys, and make sure that you take lots of pictures for me, because I’m sure Miguel might even join you on stage for one of them.Auto! Automatic - They claim to have the big drum sticks, they claim to have dancing music, they claim lots of things. They live up to their claims, and their song titles are fun to say. Why argue against those claims, I’m not one to find a lawyer.

Why we chose:The Skatom Bombs - Those that truely know me, know I’m very passionate about big band, swing, and crooners from the 30’s and 40’s. That movement died with Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Frankie Laine when people born during World War II rebelled against their parents. The answer to the grunge movement in Seattle was a brief revival from the punk scene in big band, and ska was reborn in the 90’s. It died again, oh I still miss my Zoot Suit Riots, and 30 piece bands. Where am I going with this why we choose? Well, Ska is making yet another comeback, and it’s in the hXc genre this time. Best of both worlds if you ask me. Time to compare traditional ska with skacore. Starting first with West Coast traditional ska artist The Skatom Bombs.Safety - This was a record label showcase show, and they were the strong headliners on the label. Everyone else was either touring, or just auditioning for the label. As the draw and the headliner, they had to pull up the anchor and pull in the crowds. You can’t see their set, but you can hear their music. Judge for yourself against the rest of the bill tonight, and see how they stood up to the challenge. The Upsiders - They’re Punk, no they’re ska, no they’re punk again. Running the sound board for these guys was a nightmare, but the end product was a fluid set of songs that didn’t all sound the same. And yes, we do have more than 40 listeners. Would you like to know in which Countries?Radio Reset - Well, they didn’t get back to me in time to get an interview in this episode, because they had bigger plans and schemes for the show that night. Since this show was an audition, I really can’t blame them. I did get one of their songs in the episode, so you can listen to a band, that is hopefully signed to a small local Tampa Indie label by now.Flaming Tsunamis - After seeing them live, I’m a HUGE fan of these guys. Imagine Black Metal riffs complete with melodic keys complete with a sax. Now add in not 1, not 2, but 3 HXC screamers that each could be the front man in their own band. Let the chaos unleashed on stage and you have a Flaming Tsunamis of Category 6 proportions.

Note: Tampa Artist Weaksauce would have been a great candidate for this episode having recently come out with a CD, and providing me a demo. Perhaps someone who knows the band (Travis) can contact them, and let them know I am still waiting on permission to play a track from it. Alas, we had to cut our ending song and replace it with something from the CC Mixer library.

Why we chose:

Aaron English - A very smooth way to start off an episode with two bands split in genres, personalities, and themes. This tune right here is one of the reasons why we support unsigned and independent music, and we’re glad we can place it in an episode. It’s mellow, surreal, and the vocals/lyrics are very powerful.

Art of Dying - I mistakenly put this band in the holding queue for Charles from IR: Socal, because I labeled them from CA. He informed me that Canada is not in California. My geography is horrible, and keeping track of the where a band is from is even tougher. If I can get through this, I can get through anything. Probably not what they mean in the refrain of the song, but I’m convinced they are talking about geography. Hey guys, cut me some slack. I know it’s not easy, just a matter of fact.

Anxious Arms - A very alternative way to end an episode with band split in genres, personalities, and themes. Hell, they are singing about Vancouver, which is in Canada, and they are from NY. Please, don’t ask me where Vancouver is in Canada. This high energy song will probably leave you wanting more Anxious Arms, and even more TLP. I think I’m sneaking another one of their tracks into a 6pk. Plus these guys were an Orpheum Tampa ambush. “Hey you! Give me your demo!” They did.
